The Muzio already cost White a knight. 8.Bxf7+ throws in the bishop too, dragging the black king onto f7 where it never castles and never finds shelter. White continues 9.d4, hitting the queen on e5, then clears the pawn on f4 with Bxf4. That pawn is the black king's last shield: once it falls, the rook on f1 and the queen on f3 fire down the file.

White being two pieces down means nothing, because Black's bishop, knight and rook on the kingside are still at home while the white queen and rook already point at the king. Games are decided by whether Black returns material fast enough to develop and trade queens. Hoard everything and the attack crashes through; give a piece back and it burns out.

There is no record of this position worth quoting. White has sacrificed a knight and then a bishop on f7 in the space of a few moves, which is the most extreme gambit in this section and depends entirely on your king being unable to find a safe square.

Two pieces is an enormous amount of material, so the defence is to survive the next six moves rather than to find a clever refutation. Return material the moment it buys you a developing move or a safe king. Keep the queen defending rather than grabbing more. If you reach a middlegame still a piece up with a king that is merely awkward instead of hunted, the game plays itself.
