What Is The King's Pawn Line?

6.e4 builds the full centre and fixes the structure for good. White owns d5 and e4. You own the c5 and d6 pair, a queenside majority, and the half-open e-file. Your bishop belongs on g7, your break is ...a6 and ...b5, and White's break is e4-e5. The game is a race between White's e5 and your ...b5, and whoever lands the break first sets the terms.

White picks a way to prepare it. Bg5 pins the f6 knight and leans on d6, Be3 guards the dark squares and prepares f4, and the classical Nf3 and Be2 keeps options open. Space is not the point. You accepted less of it for a real majority and dark square pressure, so passive play loses: sit still and e5 arrives with your position undeveloped.
