Chessily is a website all about the beautiful game of chess. We want to help everyone improve their chess skills, hence our motto “checkmate your way to mastery“. Most of our content is geared towards chess beginners, who want to pick up the game or improve their chess. But even if you’re a seasoned veteran that knows the in’s and out’s of every chess opening – feel free to browse around in our blog and dive into the world of chess!

Chessily.com will always be free to use and access!

Hey, I’m Marc Cressac! I grew up in the rural parts of France, later moving to Berlin for my master’s degree in engineering. Today, I am a freelance consultant in the civil engineering space. Out of boredom and the love for chess I started Chessily besides my professional work. Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn (just search for my name on Google/LinkedIn)!

Hey there! I am Marc Cressac, founder of Chessily. Together with a growing editorial team, I run chessily.com. I started this site in early 2022, to help beginners learn all about chess. We have since expanded to cover a lot of topics that chess enthusiasts all around the world are interested in.

If you need help with anything chess, please reach out to me.

I started playing my first games of chess – as so many others did – when I was a small child. My father introduced me to the game sometime around the turn of the century. Ever since then, I have been on a constant quest to improve my game. While I am by no means a pro chess player, I try my best to take you along on my chess improvement story.

Fun Fact: I have never played in a competitive tournament to this day. Ever since I can remember, I played chess on my dad’s computer, with the occasional game at a friends house. Luckily, with the rise of online chess sites like lichess.org my thirst for more chess games can be quenched easily.

Let’s face it: The internet is full of chess content, in both written and video form. With that, there is also a lot of false information and honestly bad content out there.

Here at Chessily, we want to make a difference by providing reliable, factual information in an easy-to-digest manner. To make sure our content quality is top-notch, we have a 3-step process in place.

Whenever we write an article, we work with extreme care to make sure all information is factual, up-to-date and easy to understand. This is why it can sometimes take up to a few weeks for a new article to come out. This also includes any graphics and videos we add in the article.

Before publishing, the article gets fact-checked on the chess level. Questions like “Is a6 really the best move here?” is asked either to an engine or a titled chess player. This is how we make sure you can trust the chess information on our site. You can see who fact-checked the article in the beginning of each posts, where the author is listed.

Once the article is published, it’s your turn to spot mistakes, inaccuracies or simply add your own opinion to the piece. You can always reach out to us, and ask questions or give suggestions about an article you find on here. It’s a community project in the end.

I know what you are thinking: “Another website about chess, is that really necessary”? Well, I think: Yes!

While we do have plenty, very good chess resources on the internet, I think there is a missing piece to the puzzle. I have yet to find a chess site that covers the vastness of chess in a way that is understandable for everyone.

Sure, Wikipedia is exhaustive, but good luck trying to understand 99% of chess-pages there as a beginner. That is the problem we try to solve at Chessily.

It has been almost a year since I started Chessily.com. This journey has been filled with lots of hard work and sleepless nights – but more importantly: a lot of fun! I talked to so many new and experienced chess players, met amazing people and managed to significantly grow Chessily.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) the sudden and incredible surge in traffic on this website meant that we had to upgrade our webservers. We’re now running on a dedicated cloud server with specifications better than a lot of laptops. Lucky for you, that means Chessily.com is faster than ever. Unlucky for me, cloud hosting a website is not cheap.

Of course, Chessily will always remain free to access for everyone – that’s the promise we made right at the beginning. But, I need to change things up a bit in order to cover the costs of running Chessily. I introduced Chessily Reviews, a dedicated service to reviewing products and website in the chess space.

In our reviews, we will use affiliate links where possible. If you decide to make a purchase or sign up for a paid subscription, we will receive a small commission with no additional cost to you. Please read our affiliate disclosure if you want to learn more.

We will use the generated revenue to cover the server costs first and foremost. Any additional revenue will go into improving the website and its content.

We’re constantly looking to make Chessily.com bigger and – most importantly – better! If you think you can help with that goal, please read on.

At the moment we are looking to fill the following roles:

We don’t care about your university, degree or background. If you’re competent, motivated and a good human being, we’d love to work with you.

If you’re also interested in working with us, please reach out: jobs@chessily.com. We don’t require a formal application – tell us who you are and how you can advance our project.

We use various images, icons, and logos from sources that allow it. Often, those sources require attribution. So, here is that exact list:

About Chessily Chessily is a website all about the beautiful game of chess.
